I never had the Dreamcast, a shame really. I am interested to see what the 720 will be like. A screen in the controller seems to be the way to go, Nintendo has done it so I can see the others following suit.
What happened to them, did the lasers die? Mine did, and about a week later, the same thing happened to my Saturn. If it weren't for collectors hording them and making their prices high, I would have replaced them by now.
I thought they would just keep adjusting the software so that they didn't have to make a new console and figure a new disc configuration and other stuff like that may make more money at first but doesn't because true gamers would get pissy.
Without the motion controller, that's exactly what Nintendo did with the Wii. Even though I love hardware, I'm not the type that expects the best when it comes to consoles. Traditionally, the weakest console has almost always had the larger market share and library. But if they want 7-10 years to be the new lifespan, they definitely need to make the next one to last the long haul. Especially since no console to require or offer upgrades has ever made much money.
